As an avid cruiser who’s enjoyed seven voyages over the years, I’ve encountered the occasional hiccup, a medical diversion, for instance and lets not forget, my little medical episode last year, for more information on that please listen to It’s been a minute.

Whilst doing my usual scroll through the news, I came across the below incident aboard the Sky Princess, the ship i sailed on this time last year.

On the night of April 8, 2025, while the Sky Princess was sailing a 7-night itinerary from Southampton, a burst pipe on deck seven led to significant flooding in the Piazza on decks five and six. Passengers were startled by emergency announcements, some of which mistakenly indicated fires due to technical glitches. The crew acted swiftly, shutting off the water and initiating cleanup efforts. By the next morning, the affected areas were reopened, and the cruise continued as planned .

While such incidents are rare, they serve as a reminder of the complexities involved in operating large cruise ships. Despite the initial chaos, the crew’s prompt response ensured passenger safety and minimal disruption to the voyage.

Would this put me off cruising? Absolutely not. These things happen and are generally pretty rare.
